Question
I am 14 years old, 5 foot 7, and 135 lbs. I started crew in the 7th grade last year, in the spring, and am the youngest on my varsity team. My split time last fall for a 6k was around 2:13. Is this average for my age? I also am trying to find a split for a 2k to aim at. My last 2k was a while ago and was around 2:10. And I know its pretty far in the future but do you think I could improve enough by the time I am a senior to get into a good college? I have always had at least a 4.0.

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Erika: Comparing your time to other 13-15 year old heavyweights (135 or more) on the Concept II Database, your time seems to be right in the middle.  But for all weights, you are in the Top 25%.  So I would definitely say your time is on par or better for girls your age.  I tend to guess you will become a heavyweight rower.

A 2K split of 2:07.5 will put you in the Top-50% category.  2:02.5/500 will put you in the Top 25%.

Good Luck/AP
