Rowing Weight & Nutrition for Lightweight Rowers: A Guide for Second-Year Athletes

Question
Hey,
What is the average 2k for lightweight girls in their second year of rowing? I'm a sophomore.

Does the short, heavy-ish for their size lightweight have an advantage over the tall skinny lightweight or is it the other way around?

What should I be eating a week before a race, but keeping in mind I have to make weight?

Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hi Cara: A time in the 8:36 to 8:38 range is average for 15-16 year old lightweight girls.

If body weight is the same between the two, the taller rower has a bit of a mechanical advantage over the shorter rower.

As with any healthy teenager, a diet high in protein and fiber, such as lean meats, fruits and vegetables is better than eating starchy foods or fatty foods.

Good Luck/AP
