Barracuda

Question
I am doing some research on barracuda and their behavior when not agitated, but am not having much success. I know they can swim very fast and sometimes attack for no apparent reason. I know they are curious and are attracted to shiny objects. What experience/observations have you had with these fish?

Answer
Hi Coleen,

I used to dangle my stainless steel diver's watch in front of the barracuda in Mexico and try to get them to circle me, but they were always just curious and mellow... never aggressive directly to me.

They can be kind of scary looking, for sure, especially a big fat one, of course!  I've kind of lost any fear for them after so many encounters.

HTH,
James
