savage model 99a

Question
Hi Bob,
My gun is serial # A7XX331, a model stamped Savage 99A. I understand from
talking with others that Savage 99A's were produced early in the 20th
century, discontinued, and then re-introduced after WWII. Therefore, we
supposedly have a "old" and "new" A-type in existance (no idea if this
statement is accurate!!). This particular gun has schnabel fore grip and  a
straight or "english " grip for a stock. Caliber is 250-3000, and rotary counter
looks to be a silver color, and not the brass variety. Flip-up rear sight and is
probably factory drilled and tapped. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
PS do you know what brand recoil pad savage typically used during the time
of my 99's manufacture? Thanks again.

Answer
Hi Tony.

The following blue book report lists all of the Savage models with photos and descriptions of the variants:

https://store.bluebookinc.com/InstantAccess/Model.aspx?product=5&id=1529

You can confirm your model number there and then purchase the value data to be viewed online, downloaded, or printed.

From the looks of the information it seems as though your gun must be a 99E, 99F, or similar. Take a look through the classifications and see which best fits your gun.

I am not familiar with the recoil pad info but here is a search link which might help:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22savage+99%22+%22recoil+pad%22

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Bob
