JC Higgins model 583

2016/7/22 9:18:03

Question
Just had a JC Higgins model 583.23 given to me by my Uncle. Its a 12 gauge 2 3/4: bolt action  gun with a tubular magazine. While looking online for a extractor for this gun, I came across all this recall info from Sear's and Roebuck. Does not appear my gun is part of the recall. Is the gun safe to shoot?

Answer
Cliff,

If you have checked the numbers and your Higgins is not within the range you are ok there. As for your gun being "safe to shoot" I would assume that it is ok HOWEVER if/when ever in doubt you should deliver your gun to a qualified gunsmith for a personal inspection.

Thanks for the question Cliff.
