Glock Conversion to 22 cal

2016/7/22 9:19:07

Question
QUESTION: What is your opinion on the conversions  to 22 cal, to shoot as a hobby cheaper while using the same gun that is your personal defense weapon? I live in Phoenix, AZ, USA

ANSWER: Robert,

Last year I was hoping to begin competition more seriously, and that meant more practice.  You've no doubt noticed that the price of loaded ammunition and even components to load your own has gone up, so I got an Advantage Arms .22 conversion for my Glock competition gun.

My plan was to shoot 300-500 rounds a week in practice, starting and ending each session with 50 rounds of the real thing, and using the .22 in the middle to get repetitions on presentation, sight picture, trigger press, reloads, and other necessary manipulations.

Sorry to say that work got in the way and I won't be going to the states or nationals this year.  But the Advantage Arms kit worked great, and was fun to shoot besides.

Be aware that it is not as reliable as your centerfire Glock.  This is not a flaw in the AA kit - it is as reliable as any .22 auto pistol, all of which are a good deal less reliable than any good centerfire gun owing to the skinny case, light bullet, and small powder charge.

The Advantage Arms is the only one I would recommend.  I think it is the bet of them. I think you'll enjoy it a lot.

Good luck.

QUESTION: I have been told they are ammo sensitive. I hope they dont make be buy some expensive ammo, cutting down the advantage of shoting the .22 cal??

Thanks

Bob

Answer
They are ammo sensitive, and will not work with wimp rounds.  One of the rounds they will work with, though, is Remington Golden Bullet with you can buy in bulk (500 rounds) at WalMart for dirt cheap.  That's what I've run in mine, and they work fine.
