Mossberg 500 Serial Number Year: How to Determine Manufacturing Date

I'm trying to determine the model year of my mossberg 500. Is it the last two numbers,on mine it's 99 ?

Very rarely does a firearm's serial number contain the year of manufacture. I've only ever heard of it on small companies that only produce a few pieces a year.

The only way to know the year of mfg is to call Mossberg SN. They will either tell you or direct you what department to send to in order to find out. Many companies charge for this service, but the charge is not great ($5-10).
