fox model b ser #b25136

Question
This gun has had some repair on the stock above the triggers. Is it better to leave repair alone and refinish or find a replacement stock? Hardware is good but needs cleaning.

Answer
Hi Chuck,

"Better" is a relative term which depends upon your personal goals concerning this gun. Either way it will not actually be original once the work is completed. However, if you plan on keeping the gun and enjoying it for what it is, it really is not much of an issue one way or the other.

If it were mine I would probably give the refinish a try first and see if I liked the overall appearance when completed. If that does not provide the desired results, I'd then go for replacing the stock.

Another issue that I cannot not address without inspecting the gun, is wether or not the repair/damage is a functional issue. If located in a high stress area of the stock, it may be destined to only get worse if/when the gun is fired. You are in the best position to determine that one.

I've been where you are at and gone with new stocks and also refinished to cover the repair. I can tell you that on at least one occassion the damage became much worse with usage after the refinish work was completed.

Thanks for the question Chuck.
