Question
my ankles always start to ache when i skate & i try to tighten up the skates, but always have to deal w/pain when i skate.  do i need a more supportive boot type skate?  my rollerblades come up on my ankles though.  i'm a decent skater and know how.

Answer
Monica,
I have heard this from inline skaters time & again. It seems that inline skates create problems that quad skaters seldom experience. Ankles, arches, the bottom of the foot - I hear it often.
If it is a localized spot that aches - you may try going to a ski shop & ask for a foam rubber "donut" & place it in your sock so it surroundes the painful spot. If that is not the case,I would go back to where you bought the skates & see if they have a solution to your problem.
When buying a boot, spend adequate time in the shop moving around as much as you can in the skate to give a chance for any problem areas to reveal themselves. Do a lot of edging to make certain that the boot gives maximum comfort - this is the most important element of your boot. All the new features that inline companies come up with can't compare with the importance of a comfortable fit.
Best to go to a shop that has different brands since what works for one person may not work for another. Try a variety of brands to find the one that is right for your foot.
Also while the skate is still new, most shops will take let you try a different skate if you are not happy with your purchase.
I hope this helps.
