Question
I just bought a new pair of Salomon 90 something or others and went right to the park. They are great skates, but s soon as I started going up or down hills the sides of my feet started killing, I had to stop and take them off.Do I just need to get used to the skates?
Thanks
Ben

Answer
Hi Ben,
I have a feeling that your foot muscles aren't use to the kind of pressure pushing puts on them, especially trying to skate up hill.  Down hill shouldn't effect your feet because you are usually coasting.

If the pain is on the inside of your feet, towards the arch, it could be because your feet aren't use to the kind of support that the inlines are now giving you and your arch is protesting.

If the pain in on the outside of your feet perhaps the inline boot is not wide enough?  Or you skate with your feet too far apart?

Without seeing you skate these are only educated guesses.  It could very well be that if you haven't skated much, your muscles are trying to  build and causing you pain.

If you feel the boot fits you well and is not to narrow, then just go easy for a while and let the muscles get use to the skating.  If it doesn't stop, you might consider having an arch support placed in your skate for support.

Sometimes if the street shoes you wear have a good arch support and your skates do not.......it will cause you pain.  And vise versa also...if your street shoes don't have any support and your skates have a good arch support, that too will cause pain.

Good Luck.......it's process of elimination.  If I can help any further, feel free to send me another note.
