From inline to Roller?

2016/7/21 18:00:24

Question
Hi Kim,

I know how to inline skate...but I've never roller skated.  How similar are the two?

Do you have any thoughts on how fast I can pick up roller skating...maybe like in ten minutes?

Answer
Steve,
I haven't been on roller skates in some time myself but I will give you whatever advice I can offer. The name of the game is balance. If you have a really good sense of balance, you can pick up roller (or quads) in an afternoon. The stride in roller is more to the back then to the side. Stopping is easier on quads then inlines if you are using the traditional roller skates with the break in the front. I would recommend that you give yourself enough time to practice if you are preparing for an event. Just take it at a comfortable pace, work at it and you will do great in no time. Good luck and remember to wear your protective gear! If you have any more question, roll 'em my way!
