No balance, which blades to buy

Question
Hi Pat, I'm 31 have no balance at all and have never skated. Which blades are best to buy?

Answer
Hi Jacqui,
It really doesn't matter which brand of blades you buy.  The only thing I would suggest is that you get ones that fit you well and have a bearing ABEC rating of 3.  ABEC 3 is an average bearing that won't roller very fast or take off on you.

As you get better you can always upgrade the bearing to a better one so you can go faster without having to buy a whole new skate.

Since you mentioned that you do not have good balance, I would highly recommend that you take some lessons at your local roller rink.  They will teach you how to find your balance point and how to stay in balance.

I would also suggest you try renting rink blades before you buy any.  This will give you an opportunity to see if you actually enjoy roller blading before you invest in a pair of your own.

I would also suggest that you purchase some safety equipment....especially wrist guards.  They make knee pads and elbow pads too but the most important ones are the wrist guards to avoid breaking your wrist should you fall.

Good Luck and have fun.......but be safe.  If I can help any further please feel free to write me again.

Pat
