Questions about my Mistral board

2016/7/22 14:40:46

Question
QUESTION: I inherited a Mistral board when I moved to my current house.  I'm too small for a board this size (I'm only 4' 11") and would like to sell it to someone that could actually get some use out of it.  But I do not know enough about it or even if it's too advanced in years to sell?  The information from the board is as follows: Mistral Inter Carbon Glass Fusion CGI, Escape 3.4s; length 346cm/11'3", width 65cm/25.6", & Volume 190 litres.  Made in Germany. Every bit of information helps.  Thanks.  Sincerely, Melanie V.

ANSWER: Hey Melanie,

It is an older board but sounds like it is still usable. It would work as a light wind board for you but getting it to and from the water might be a chore for someone your size. The value of the board will depend on the buyer and what you might expect to get out of it. Couple of things that might help it sell. Does it have the original daggerboard (centerboard)? Does it have a fin? Is the mast track a moveable mast track (small black button at the aft end of the track that when out of it's slot and pressed down, the mast track is allowed to move). Look at the track and if there is a black square at the tail end of the track and you can see small ropes down in the track, then it is a moveable mast track.

If the board has all these and there are no major dings, it could sell for anywhere from $30 to  $100 depending upon the buyer. Advertise high and accept lower offers. Check on ebay or your local craigslist for similar boards. Be aware that some ebay boards are priced way too high for their age and condition. If you can get a couple of pics and post them on a follow up question, I could maybe give you an idea of the value. Also let me know your general area is as this could affect value. I live near the Gorge and older long boards like this are readily available for really cheap. Areas where a good light wind long board is desired, the value could be fairly good.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Thanks so much for the information. As to location, I live in Ohio close to Lake Erie.  I would have to get the board out of storage to take photos and check the mast, but I think I remember the mast being adjustable. It does have a fin too. I think it still has a daggerboard, but I'd have to check that as well.  Once again thanks for all the information.  Mel

Answer
Hey Mel,

With everything there and in good shape, my guess is that you could probably get anywhere from $50-$200 for your board. Locally via craigslist will probably be your easiest way to list it. Ebay works but be sure to note 'local only, no shipping' as trying to ship a board that size would cost more than it is worth.

Best of luck with your sale.
