Question
hi patrick, just read ur reply to a newbie.i,m still using a 12.5ft wayler(not sure which model)i have been sailing for about 18 mths, initiallyi tried at newton bay porthcawl south wales, and didnt get anywhere, just couldnt understand why i wasnt gettin the hang of it. then i tried a lake and was off sailing with no probs. my board is almost impossible to steer on the move, i,ve tried different fin positions.but find it best for strait lining, i get a fair speed but i want more, i have tried a smaller bic but it just sank 8" below surface and even when uphauled it wouldnt move, i,m 14 stone,i now have a bic veloce at 137 ltrs which i,ve yet to try out(next weekend)what is the ideal volume for my wieght.note to newbies keep at it it will work.

Answer
For your weight the 137 ltrs. should be ok to float you without sinking but you will need at least 15 knots of wind. For a basic fast manueverable board in 112 to 15 knots average wind you would be best on a board around 150 liters.  The more volume the less wind you will need to move you.  You must become aware of wind speed and know if you are getting clean wind with no obstructions otherwise without wind you will not move. In order to steer the Wayler you will need to use the sail.  The board is not meant to steer by foot or carving.  If you hold the sail forward of the mounting base you should turn downwind.  If you hold the sail in back of the mounting base you should turn up into the wind.  At this point you really need a lesson. Try to get in touch with some windsurfing shops in your area to see what they offer.  Don't worry you will definitely get it.
