Answer
Loss of muscle mass can happen with aging, but this sounds unusual. It sounds like that 10 lbs was muscle. Walking is good for burning calories, but it really does not do much for muscle tone. Your walking sounds very vigorous, but I do think you need to work on some strength-training exercises. You might want to make sure you are getting enough protein and consuming enough calories to maintain your weight. Simply adding a good whey supplement to your diet would be a good idea. But you could just add more foods with higher protein content (meats and dairy, mainly). There is also a supplement called CLA (conjugated linoleic acid - 3 grams per day) that helps build muscle mass.

If these changes don't help, you should see a doctor. There may be something else going on.
