Question
Hello,

I have been walking most days for a couple of months trying to
loose some weight. Part of the walk invoive some stairs. I
normally take two steps at a time when I get to the stairs. I have
recently started to get pain on my left knee when I do two steps
at a time  but it is ok when i take one step at a time. Is there
something I can do to help to prevent the pain from worsen? I do
not want to give up walking.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Answer
It sounds like you might have strained a tendon or ligament. It may not be convenient, but I suggest you avoid the stairs for a while. Walking stairs is great exercise, but you need to let your knee repair itself. As long as level walking doesn't hurt, it should be OK to continue that.

You can start testing your knee on the stairs after a couple of weeks to see when it recovers. Then, I suggest you take one step at a time until you have lost more weight. Lower body weight will reduce stress on your knees to prevent injury in the future.
