Question

Tadpole
Harvey,
I have an opportunity to get this boat for free. It has set for atleast 25 years. All I have to do is get the boat and trailer moved. This is a small cabin crusier. I do not have any more information on it yet. I would have to find a plate on the boat with the factory information on it. Do you think this boat would be worth savaging?

Thanks
Bob

Answer
Robert,

Your boat sounds like a great opportunity.  I would plan about 50 to 100 hours to restore the hull etc. but it may take only 20 yours.

I would check for dry rot etc.  I might take a rubber mallet and hit it below the water line in several places to see if stuff falls off.  If not you may have a nice boat with some care.

Remember a boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into.  But a free hole is a good start.

Go to www.boat-bottom-paint.com for info on a new bottom paint.
