Question
In 1989 my wife's father past away after just buying a new Johnson outboard motor. He put it on the boat and winterized it, went to the Hospital and passed on.It's been in the carport of our FL home ever since.

A Local man has asked to buy it.I have no idea what the value is of an unused 20 year old Motor.

Can you help please?

Answer
A rule of thumb for boat motors is $200 if it runs plus $100 per horsepower.  Your motor is not a current year so you will need to discount it.  Often used equipment sells at 50% of cost but yours may well go for 75 or 80% of cost.  You could also go to ebay and use their evaluation system to see what other motors are selling for.  I just bought a used 2 hp. Suzuki for $325.  A new Honda 4 hp. sells for $800.
