outdrive stuck in the up position

Question
My Alpha One outdrive is stuck in the up position. I hear the motor running when I push the trim control button on my throttle, but the outdrive does not respond. Whenever I trim up or down I ALWAYS go to the extreme limit of the position, then bump it back off just a hair so the rams are not maxed out. What should I do to solve this?

Answer
Hi Lamar...thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.

The Alpha One dates back quite a few years, and I suspect you may have a couple of problems. First, have you checked to ensure there is adeqyate hydraulic fluid? A substantial shortage can and will create malfunctions, so make certain you determine the condition of the seals on each ram for leakage, as well as the feed line for cracks, etc. Secondly, the rams may be worn out and are seizing, or they might be bent due to unintentional impact.

Best you consult a qualified and reliable marine mechanic to resolve.
