Searay 260 Sundancer Tachometer

2016/7/15 18:31:43

Question
The tach on my boat if very irratic. Sometimes it will show that it is over 6000 RPM when I can tell by the sound it is only around 3500. At idle it shows 2000 rpm when I can tell it's around 800 by the sound. When I turn off the engine, sometimes it will just stay at 3000 RPM so I turn the key part way on and it will then go to zero.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Wes...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to respond to your question.

Although I'm not a mechanic, the symptom suggests tach unit may be defective, rather than the sending system. Best you have a qualified and reliable marine mechanic take a look at it.
