I have diesel fuel in the oil. I changed the lift pump, still a problem. I know the high presure fuel pump can have a bad seal. However. After changing the lift pump, I changed oil and filter. Ran the engine for three hours. Checked and found no evidence of diesel in the oil. I let the engine set without running for 6 hours and discovered at least a quart of diesel present in the oil. Could the bad seal on the high pressure pump leak into the oil after the engine runs and sets or not leak while it is running. Any other areas to check before I spend more time and lots of money on a high pressure pump or rebuild? PLEASE HELP!
Steve

Bruce thanks for the help!
To give you the complete history. I got bad fuel and ran the engine for 20 hours or better before I discovered the problem. I took the boat to a yard who cleaned the tank and all filters. The injectors went to the shop for rebuild and calibration, had to replace one and rebuilt the other three and calibrated. The yard re-installed and everything seemed great. The engine had run less than 10 hours when I discovered the diesel in the oil. As mentioned I replaced the lift pump then discovered the fuel seems to be invading the oil sump after the engine has run, shut down, then let set.
Should I have the yard re-inspect the injectors? Or is the injection pump the likely culprit? Thanks for the response.

before i would pull the injection pump, i would pull the injectors first. have them checked by a fuel injection shop. injectors sometimes will leak down if they have a bad seal or plunger. if you still have a problem, then go for the injection pump. hope this helps.

Answer
WAS THE INJECTOR PUMP CLEANED OF THE DIRTY FUEL BEFORE YOU RAN IT AFTER THE REBUILT INJECTORS WERE PUT IN? I WOULD THINK THE INJECTORS WOULD BE THE CULPRIT, BUT THE SEALS ON THE INJECTOR PUMP COULD ALSO BE THE PROBLEM. I WOULD CHECK THE INJECTORS AGAIN, SINCE THAT IS THE EASIEST TO DO.
