mock or practice races after raceday

2016/7/15 11:22:28

Question
hello sir, does American thoroughbred racing conduct mock races or practice races after all the races get finished on a raceday?

an ex-jockey told me that a horse which was away from work at nearly 4 to 5 months with stall rest and only light exercises not even entering the racetrack for fast work needs a practice race so that it would remind the horse that he got to run in a race. is he correct?

Answer
HI IF A HORSES HASN'T RUN FOR SAY 6 MONTHS, THE HORSE MUST HAVE 3 PUBLISHED WORKOUTS AND AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE WORKOUTS FROM THE GATE TO GET THE GATE CARD IN ORDER TO BE OK TO RACE AGAIN. SOME HORSES NEED REST, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE READY TO RUN WITH THE PROPER WORKOUTS BEFORE YOU CAN START IN A RACE AFTER A LONG LAY OFF. THANKS ED HESS
