horse behavior correction makes a better racehorse trainer

2016/7/15 11:22:29

Question
hello sir, lets suppose a new thoroughbred racehorse arrives to your stable. would you first consider to correct its behavior irrespective of its age, gender. and then start training? does equine behavior correction makes a better trainer or not required in racing?

Answer
It would benefit all who handles the horse if the behaviour is corrected. I would continue training the horse to race as I would any, while working on it's behavioural habits along the way. Some habits are just do hard to break while training the horse to race. The high energy feeds and fitness may cause a horse to act out in ways that he normally would not if living a normal life as nature intended. This is especially true with fillies and mares as the stress of training and unnatural muscle mass can throw off their cycle and hormone levels.
