reaching finish line - smacking or hand riding

Question
hello sir. in thoroughbred horse racing, do most of the horses run fast to the finish line if it is hand ridden or it should require enough smacks with the whip? what is the psychology of the horse?

can you please tell me how many times the jockey should smack the horse in the last 2 furlongs?

Answer
There is no sure answer to this question as all horses are trained or respond differently. They all have their own unique running style. A well trained horse should not require whipping. Zenyatta, one of the greatest American mares of all time was hardly ever whipped and win all but 1 of here races where she finished 2nd in the the most prestigious race in North America.
