reason for a horse hanging in for excessive use of whip

2016/7/15 11:22:38

Question
hello sir. i read in many articles that horses hang in if they are over whipped on the opposite rump. i  mean to say, if the horse is running in a right handed racetrack. if it is smacked on the left rump excessively, it would hang in. may i know why?

Answer
This sounds like a case of the horse moving away from the excess pain or pressure. A rider should be able to recognise this and either swap whip hands or alter his steering to compensate for the move.
