Question
over weight carried by the horse than assigned weight
over weight carried by
hello sir, till now i have seen jockeys riding horses with the assigned weight. lets suppose assigned weight is 55kgs, they would surely ride for 55. this is 1st situation

2nd situation, apprentice jockeys have got allowances. for assigned weight 55kgs, they would surely ride -5kgs or -3.5kgs depending upon their number of wins in their career.

i recently encountered a 3rd situation where, jockey is riding 0.5kg or 1 kg more than the assigned weight. for example, if the assigned weight is 55kgs, jockey is riding 55.5kgs or 56kgs. when does this situation arise?? i have attached an image of our indian thoroughbred racing results which is completely explained below:

H.NO - horse number
weight  - the assigned weight to the horse ; the number in paranthesis or brackets is nothing but the weight carried by the horse in the race , written as CR which means carried
draw no. - starting gate stall number

Answer
Hi Rohit,
Sometimes a jockey will ride 'overweight' because they could not get down to the assigned weight naturally. The trainer may decide that another .5 kg will not matter so they request permission to ride overweight. The betting public must have this information before the race for obvious reasons. Sometimes there are not enough jockeys available to make up a field in a lightly weighted race so several may ride overweight.
Cheers,
Don
