TURF grown on thoroughbred racetrack

2016/7/15 11:23:08

Question
hello sir, i believe that TURF is a type of grass which is grown on the racetrack. may i know why TURF is specifically grown on the thoroughbred racetrack? why not other breeds of grass grown? can you please tell me the advantage of growing TURF on the racetrack?

Answer
hi -- the word turf means grass. turf racing is grass racing and the other kind of surface is either regular dirt or a synthetic type of surface to race on. so when you see that the horse ran on turf, that means the horse raced on grass. thanks ED HESS
