how to stop a horse from rearing using hands

Question
hello sir, you are saying not to throw arms into the air like this in the picture. so, when the horse gets spooked or rears, what should i do to stop him from rearing using hands? do i need to shout or stay quiet?

Answer
HI -- IF THE HORSE REARS IN THE AIR, THEY WILL COME BACK DOWN AND GO BACK TO DOING WHAT THEY WERE DOING BEFORE THEY REARED. I WOULD STAY QUIET AND TALK QUIETLY TO THE HORSE AS YOU USUALLY DO. WAVING YOUR HANDS AND SHOUTING WILL ONLY SPOOK THE HORSE MORE. THANKS ED HESS
