turning out a yearling instead of being galloped

Question
hello sir, may i know what is "turning out a yearling instead of being galloped"?

Answer
HI  WELL WHEN THE TERM "TURN OUT" IS USED I THINK THAT THEY MEAN THE 2 BREAK OLD IS GOING TO BE TURNED OUT TILL THE RACING SEASON STARTS UP IN THE SPRING. THEY USUALLY BREAK THE YEARLINGS TO THE SADDLE ETC AND TURN THEM OUT TO GROW TILL THEY ARE 2 YR OLD. THEN THEY START TRAINING ALL OVER AGAIN UNTIL THE  TRAINER EITHER GOES ON WITH THEM OR TURNS THEM OUT FOR MORE GROWING UP.  THANKS Ed Hess
