Racehorses Right Lead

2016/7/15 11:28:14

Question
A commentator on TV discussing a race said that the right lead is faster than the left coming down the stretch. They showed the jockey moving his weight and then you could see the horse swap leads. Why is the right faster than the left, seems to me the left would be faster because the horse's bend would be more correct going counter clockwise. Thank you once again for your answer.

Answer
as a trainer i have never been told that one lead is faster then the other by anyone. i know the horse has to change leads in a race to keep from getting out at the top of the stretch. the horse leaves the gate on the right lead and then he changes going into the turn and also changes again at the top of the stretch. i could not say that either lead is faster then the other.  hope that helps you decide for yourself  thanks ED HESS
