Winter Horse Racing in the UK

2016/7/15 11:28:45

Question
I'm researching a novel set in London in 1986.  Which tracks, if any, might I have been able to bet at an off-track shop during the winter months?  The only meeting I can find a listing for is a March meeting at Cheltenham.  But I recall the shops (Mecca, Wm. Hill, Ladbrokes) being open year-round.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Michael,
What is the novel you are researching?
I live in New Zealand so am not familiar with UK racing tracks. I can direct you to a very good website www.jockeysite.com which will give you a link for every track in the UK, or Labrokes can tell you!
I am not sure if some of the tracks race all year but maybe some have heated surfaces (they do in Japan).
When the jockey.com site opens click the 'English' option top right and then gate 6. You will find your way from there.
My email is [email protected]
Regards,
Don Boddie
