Managing Head Toss in Racehorses: Bit Options & Considerations

Question
hello sir, in my stable, we have a 4 year old bay colt who runs in the race with shadow roll but always tosses his head up as soon as the start is effected. we are not allowed to use a standing martingale in the race in indian racing. i got an idea of using a hanging bit or a full cheek snaffle with bit keepers on this horse so that it adds poll pressure and the horse would keep its head down. is my idea correct upto certain extinct? does these 2 bits prevent the horse from tossing its head up?

Answer
I do not feel changing the bit is a simple solution to throwing his head up. This may just be a habit that the horse has. If throwing his head up is not affecting his performance, then I would not try to correct it. Make sure the jockey is not breaking in his mouth to cause this. The jockey should break with a loose rein when coming out of the gate.
