Question
Hi Ryan,
I am 46 y/o and training for an ultra marathon in Sept. I know that carbs are a must for fuel before the race, and I'm thinking it would be safe to say that during the race, carbs are a must as well. When is protein important for me during, before and after the race? Thank you! Gina

Answer
Gina,

Protein is important for rebuilding muscles after strenous exercise; however , in an ultra it is very important. They are very important after the race; and get important after about 18 miles or so; about when the muscles would usually start to break down.
