calf and back pain

Question
I used to run but stopped years ago. I have always been overweight and have gained some but am very actve. In the years off I have danced. I just started running again. I am only up to 1.5 miles and my endruance is good but my calf muscles HURT even when I stretch! Also by the end of the run my middle back on my right hurts. What can I do t overcome this (short of losing weight which is happening since I am running and eating right!)--will I just be in pain til the weight drops?

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Hi Susan:

the key to pain free calves is warming up slowly into your running, try walking a couple of blocks first and stretching well after your run.  Also sometime it is a sign that your shoes are wearing out....time to replace them perhaps
This may also be contributing to your back pain.  Back strengthening exercises are important for runners as well
