static vs. dynamic

2016/7/22 8:47:37

Question
What kind of rope would I want for an indoor top rope situation, a static or dynamic rope.

Answer
Dynamic. Dynamic ropes stretch a bit and allow for safer falls. The ropes because of the stretch are easier on your body and less susceptible to rope breakage.  Static ropes are used for rappelling, jumaring and for hauling gear.  If you are tied in for safety, be sure it's dynamic,

Though they will stretch they are not bungee cords, in a fall you won't actually feel the stretch.
