Is being tall a problem

2016/7/22 8:48:20

Question
I've recently been hired as a rock climbing supervisor and will be trained before i began my job...the job is in an indoor rec center...I'm 6'2 1/2 and 184lbs.,regular build, not skinny, and was wondering if my height would be a disadvantage to me?

Answer
Dear Eduardo----I assume that you have not climbed much. Think of climbing more like yoga than like football---size matters little. Some great climbers are huge, and some like Lynn Hill, are very small.

As to gyms, being tall usually helps.

I don't emphasize grade climbed as a measure of ability so much as I value grace and competence.

For some safety background, pls see my book, "Ultrasafe-A Guide to Safer Rock Climbing," available at Amazon.com.
