Ivy league rowing

2016/7/22 9:48:32

Question
My daughter is a junior in high school. Her best 2k score is 7:13 and has competed and been  successful on a national level. Many Universities are contacting her. She is a very good student so she could probably handle the academics at most any school. However if she chooses an Ivy league school over a public one, can she expect any kind of scholarship or assistance or is it strictly financial need based. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Mike: You probably know that Ivy League schools do not award athletic scholarship.  That said, when they do grant academic scholarships, the fact that she has a world-class erg time and has competed nationally is going to be a huge tiebreaker over students with equal grades but have less of an extracurricular resume.

From what I've heard, many students heading to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. get some sort of financial aid from the school.  I don't know how many get full rides, but if your daughter has the grades that match her rowing ability, I can see her getting a 4-year scholarship with all expenses paid.
