Intratec TEC-9: History, Production & Alternatives

Question
Hello. I was wondering if you knew if there are any weapons in production or available that resemble the weapon commonly referred to as the Intratech "tech 9."

Answer
Mark,

The "TEC-9" went out of production in 2001 when the company that built them, Intratec, ceased operations.  They were banned as a part of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994.  Intratec came out with a new version that met the restrictions of the ban called the AB-10.  Since the assault weapons ban has since lapsed, the sale of TEC-9 firearms became legal again.

There are used guns available on the market if you do some looking around.  A quick search on GunBroker.com shows several for sale in the $400 to $450 price range.  Similar types of guns include the semi-auto Uzi which in my view is actually a better gun than the TEC-9.

Hope this helps you out...
