begginer on rollerblades

Question
Hi Pat,
I am 38 years old and new to rollerblading. I went to a store and I found 2 used rollerblades, the brand was Rollerblade Roadrunner. They had a size 9 and a size 10. I usally wear size 9 on my shoes. I tried both of them: the size 9 was snug, but my toes were hurting a little after 20 minutes. The size 10 is more comfortable, but is also a little loose, I understand that the Roadrunner are speed skates, but i was doing fine at the store. Which one do you think I should buy, or is better to forget about them? Each costs $5.00, which is very cheap, but i don't want to buy the wrong one because it is cheap and then hate the sport because it does not fit like a glove.
 I appreciate your help!!

Answer
Hi Lisiane,
You definitely don't want a skate that makes your toes hurt.  So, my suggestion is to get the size 10 and perhaps wear 2 pairs of socks and/or snug it up with an additional inner sole.

This would work fine unless the skates are still sloppy on your feet after adding the extra socks or the inner sole.  If that's the case you wouldn't have the support you need and your feet and ankles would hurt and get tired quickly.

$5.00 is a great price but not at the expense of injuring your feet.  But if you think the added socks or inner sole would work......go for it!

  Good Luck
