Older Board Design

Question
Howdy, I picked up some used (classic) windsurfing equipment. One board is a Windsurfer One Design which is fairly complete except the rear fin is missing. The other is an Aitkens 911. It has two missing fins (outsides, small) of it's three. Do you know where I can get replacement equipment for these older classic boards? Thanks!

Answer
Hey Ross,

The One Design fin may be difficult to find. Check ebay under windsurf, windsurfer, & windsurfing for all listings. Your local Craigslist may have something also. Some of those older One Designs had a retractable fin and are difficult to find. Check the fin box and if it is just like the one on the Aitkens board, then any of that same type fin will work. That type fin is called an A box, US box, or Chinook box. Easy to find at the places I mention here.

As for the Aitkens, you could sail it without the small (thruster) fins. The thruster fins do add some control to the board during high wind sailing and wave sailing but are not absolutely needed for general sailing. You should be able to find them on ebay or go to windsurfingmag.com and check out links for various shops.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
