Answer
Hey Wilf,

I may be possible to add a sliding mast track to your board. It will depend upon the type of your original mast to board connection. If it is a newer type with a slot, there are aftermarket sliding mast tracks that attach the same as a standard mast base.

I don't remember Wayler having this type so if your board is the older style with just two holes, then switching to a sliding mast track could be quite a bit of work. You would have to cut a slot in the hull, trim the core for the track to fit down into, fill in the the holes left by the original holes, and then get the new track to seal in tightly so that no water will get inside the board. The main problem will be finding the correct epoxy to seal the core and the mast track into the board. If you use the wrong epoxy, it can start eating the core of your board and create a huge problem.

IF you decide this the route you want to take, find a surfboard maker near you and talk to them about this project. They would be able to give you the best advice on materials to use and how to attach the new mast track securely.

If you really want a board with a sliding mast track, I would advise shopping around for something to suit your needs. Watch ebay and classifieds for boards of this type. They are still available for decent prices.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
