mast problems

2016/7/22 14:42:24

Question
I have two masts. One fibreglass and one carbon.
They both have glass fibre "pins" on the surface which enter my hands and itch.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks, Danijel

Answer
Hi Danijel,

Get some fine sandpaper, 800 grit, and lightly sand the masts. This will eliminate the small slivers. Be sure to sand evenly. You should only have to do this once or twice a year. This should reduce the problems you are having. The other option would be to wear some thin gloves. Check the gardening section of your local hardware store for knit gloves with a thin rubber coating on them. They will protect your hands while handling your mast and also give you good grip while rigging. Hope this helps.

Keep on sailing,
