Question
Mr.Blanchet,
I have a 28' Bayliner Contessa and am wanting to take a trip from Havelock,NC to Miami. This would be the biggest trip Ive ever made and was wondering if you could help me out.I woould like to know(a rought estimate)if you could, about how far it will be,how long it will take(i dont mind putting in 8 or 10 hours a day)how often and where i would have to stop, and given the current gas prices, about how much it would cost in fuel.Thank you some much for your time.
  Abe

Answer
Hi Abe...thanks for selecting the undersigned to respond to your question.

I live in Toronto, ontario, Canada so, I don't have an appropriate chart to provide an answer on distance. Weather and sea conditions will dictate the time within which you might expect the trip to take, so you can make a reasonably educated guess once you establish the trip's total distance and estimate your average speed. The rest of the calculations are elementary insofar as costs are concerned. Just make certain, you're well equipped with safety equipment, extra fuel, spare prop(s), a GPS, and a digital selective calling VHF.
