Pedigree - The Dosage Scale

2016/7/15 11:28:41

Question
Hi Stephanie

I have recently started researching the Dosage scale and noticed you anwered a question regarding this topic previously.

My question concerns "The centre of distribution scale" and converting this to race distance.

Can you tell me if my following calculations are along the correct lines?

2.00 = Brilliant = Race distance 5f,6f
1.00 = Intermediate = Race distance 7f/1m
0.00 = Classic = Race distance 1m1f - 1m3f
-1.00 = Solid = Race distance 1m4f - 1m6f
-2.00 = Proffesional = Race distance 1m7f+

Am I in the right area here?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Best Regards

Ben Aitken

Answer
Ben,
Dosage is a relativelt complictaed system, but I don't believe that your figures are correct.  You ca't just consider the center of distribution alone, you have to also take the DI into account when figuring likely distance.  The chart below is taken directly from Steve Roman's website at www.chef-de-race.com, and I think that it explains the correlation better than I ever could.

Distance           Average DI              Average CD
5 1/2 f               4.38                    0.83
6 f                   4.52                    0.89
6 1/2 f               3.96                    0.83
7 f                   3.91                    0.83
8 f                   3.13                    0.69
8f & 70 yds           3.38                    0.73
8 1/2 f               3.12                    0.69
9 f                   2.92                    0.65
9 1/2 f               2.55                    0.57
10 f                  2.55                    0.57
11 f                  2.10                    0.46
12 f                  2.02                    0.41

For a more indepth study of dosage, you really should visit Dr. Roman's website.  He has tons of useful information there.

Happy studying!
