Question
how much does a jockey haft to weigh?

Answer
Hi Peter,
Jockeys usually weigh between about 42kg and 65kg. Most racing is conducted under the handicap system where a horse is rated against the other horses in the race and then handicapped with extra weight.
The minimum weight might be say 51kg for fillies and mares and 53kg for colts and geldings. Therefore the worst rated horse will be weighted at say 51kg, or 53kg for a colt and all others will carry a bit more.
The better the horse the more weight it has to carry. If a jockey weighs 47.5kg and will be the rider of a horse which has to carry 55kg, 7.5kg of lead weights will be added to the saddle blanket.
A jockey must weighout of the jockeys room with the correct weight and weighin after the race also with the correct weight.
I hope this answers your question.
Regards,
Don Boddie
