Inner Knee Ache

2016/7/22 10:10:11

Question
I just started training for a half marathon about four weeks ago.  Recently (pretty much just this week) I've started developing a pain on my inner knee, just below the joint, that is fairly strong when I start running.  After about 3/4 of a mile it seems to subside, but as soon as I walk for a bit (while rehydrating or something...) the ache is back just as strongly when I return to my running stride.  It's not a sharp pain, but more of an ache, though it is difficult to ignore.  After running, the pain comes back if I'm walking downhill, or downstairs.
If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Lyci
Most all problems are directly related to alignment and tracking, and this is what i see based on your description which could also be the start of a little chondromalica. What i recommend is start including some stationary bike riding a couple of times or more if needed a week till the problem goes away.It would also be a good idea on a regular basis to keep your alignment as you increase your training for the 1/2 marathon.

All the best

John
