Throttle cable adjustment

2016/7/16 9:27:35

Question
Hello,
Our Quicksilver 3000 Remote throttle (on a 1996 SeaRay 175) must be pushed almost 2/3 of the entire way before the boat moves forward.  It was suggested that the throttle cable may need adjustment.  How do I do that?
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Barb

Thank you for selecting this site to respond to your question.

The problem likely exists within the cable system, and perhaps more than an adjustment is required, given the fact you need to push the throttle 2/3rds way fwd. before you get propulsion. My recommendation is to seek a qualified Mercury marine mechanic or other reliable source whom you trust or have confidence in. It may require an adjustment, but the symptom suggests there's something raddically malfunctioning. No sense in taking chances, particularly if it fails completely far from shore. The cost will likely pay dividends in the final analysis.
