engine trim

Question
Sir, I have a 27 ft sea ray with twin 470R engines. I raised the engines for trailering to lake michigan and now the starboard engine will not go down. Its stuck in the up position. I tried to add oil to pump but not really ssure much got in there. Due to position of pump, extremely hard to work on. Can i relieve the pressure on pump by disconnection two hoses that lead to and from pump? Will that help drop the engine and than refill again? Can't get a mechanic there for two weeks and thats a long time to go without the boat running. Any help greatly appreciated.pf2ed

Answer
Hi Andy

Thank you for selecting this website and the undersigned to respond to your question.

I'm not a mechanic but, consider the possibility that the hydraulic piston maybe bent, or a seal may have jamned, or there's an air lock in the hoses. Is there power going to that powertilt motor? Have you checked the solenoid? If it you can't visually see a problem, then I'd drain the hydraulics and see what happens. Be sure to have the ignition off when doing so. Aside from that, best you consult a marine mechanic at this website.
