Training for bleeders

2016/7/15 11:22:43

Question
Dear Mr Hess,
What trainings do You prefer in bleeders? Do You think is better gallop them faster or slower(for normal training)? And what kind of nutrition is optimum? What is the best solution to keep them safe?
Thank You!
Best regards!

Answer
HI -- YOU SHOULD CONSULT YOUR VET AND ASK THEM WHAT THEY PRESCRIBE IN THE TRAINING TO KEEP THEM FROM BLEEDING IN A RACE. I KNOW THAT HIGH PROTEIN IS A PROBLEM IN RACE HORSES. I ALWAYS FED NO MORE THEN 12% PROTEIN IN THEIR DIET. ALPHA HAY IS ALSO VERY HIGH IN PROTEIN SO I NEVER FED THAT TYPE OF HAY. THERE ARE SPECIAL FEEDS YOU CAN BUY THAT YOU CAN USE ON BLEEDERS. AS  FAR AS THE TRAINING FOR BLEEDERS I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD OVER TRAIN THEM. THANKS  ED HESS
