Does my horse need lasix?

2016/7/15 11:26:48

Question
My racehorse does not bleed during workouts, does he still need lasix, would removing him off lasix set him back, or would it help?

Hi Gil:

In most cases, the administration of Lasix will NOT have a detrimental affect on your horse's performance - regardless of whether it is indicated, or not.  As a result, it is probably best to race with the drug.  If inclined, breeze the horse five furlongs (or more) and "scope" afterwards.  If he scopes clean AND performs well, you may be safe racing without Lasix.

In any event, consult your veterinarian before proceeding.
